About Me
My name is Adam Sotne. I’m a UK-based editor, and ever since they misspelt my name on my birth certificate I’ve made it my life’s work to rid the world of errata.
This is usually the place where you read about how voraciously I devoured literature as a child, but if you’ve been trawling through the about pages of other editors and writers, you’re probably tiring of that spin so I’ll spare you another rendition.
Why choose me?
I am a language nerd. I’ve studied writing and grammar at university level, taught English as a second language (including editing academic papers) and trained with the CIEP. My dog-eared copies of the Chicago Manual of Style and New Hart’s Rules are always close to hand.
I am a reader. I edit as a reader first and a word-nerd second. Rules can be bent in fiction to serve a stylistic purpose, so adherence to grammar and punctuation will always come secondary to style.
I have a thorough understanding of the self-publishing process and the different services required at different stages, from the first germ of an idea to KDP-friendly formatting to the process of marketing.
I will endeavour to make sure that debut authors in particular submit their manuscript for the correct type of editing. I could not, in good conscience, charge to proofread a manuscript still in need of a copyedit. Contact me to discuss this further. Outside the editing process I’m friendly and professional. Expect prompt response time and commitment to established deadlines.
As far as my relation with literature goes, I do think genre fiction has deeper potential than it’s given credit for and I’ve enjoyed working with people who write it. Specialisation followed naturally.
